1. Who we are

This privacy policy covers 50millionamericans.org. The site is operated by We The People Inc., a nonprofit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code that does business as 50 Million Americans ("50MA," "we," or "us").

The pledge and online contributions are hosted on 50millionamericans.com, which is operated by a separate organization, the 501(c)(4) We The People Inc. When you follow a link to that site, its own privacy policy covers the information you give there.

2. Summary

This site explains the national debt and the proposed constitutional amendment. We collect basic information about how people use the site. If you contact us or arrange a gift with us directly, we collect the information you give us for that purpose.

We never sell your personal information, and we never share it with any other person or organization, including any candidate, political party, campaign, or our affiliated organization. The only exceptions are the companies that run our systems for us, which may use it only to do that work, and a legal order we are required to follow.

3. Information we collect

  • Messages and sign-up forms. If you write to us or sign up for updates, we keep the information you provide. [Remove "or sign up for updates" if the site has no sign-up form.]

  • Gifts arranged directly. If you arrange a tax-deductible gift with us by email, mail, or phone, we collect your name, address, email address, the amount, and the information needed to process and receipt the gift.

  • Information collected automatically. When you visit, we and our service providers collect information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the site that sent you here, and your approximate location based on your IP address. We use cookies and similar technologies, which are described in section 7.

  • Tracking links. The links that take you from this site to 50millionamericans.com may carry codes that tell us which page sent you. These codes do not pass along your name or contact information.

4. How we use your information

  • To provide and improve the educational content on the site.

  • To answer your messages and send updates you asked for.

  • To process gifts arranged directly with us and send receipts.

  • To understand how people use the site and measure our outreach.

  • To keep the site secure and comply with the law.

5. How we share information

We never sell or rent your personal information. We never give it to any other person or organization for their own use, including any candidate, political party, or other campaign. We share information only in the following ways.

  • Service providers. We use companies that help us run the site, and they may handle your information only to do that work for us and may not use it for anything else. They include Squarespace, which hosts the site; Google, which provides our email; the analytics providers listed in section 7; and our digital agency.

  • Donor information. We do not sell, trade, or share the names of our donors. We report donor information to the Internal Revenue Service and state regulators when the law requires it.

  • Legal requirements. We may disclose information when the law requires it, such as in response to a subpoena or court order, or when needed to protect the rights and safety of 50MA, our supporters, or the public.

  • Organizational changes. If we reorganize, merge, or wind down, information may pass to a successor nonprofit organization that agrees to follow this policy.

  • Our affiliated organization. The 501(c)(4) We The People Inc. operates 50millionamericans.com and is a separate organization. We do not transfer the information you give on this site to it. [COUNSEL: confirm, and revise if any sharing is permitted.]

6. Your choices and rights

  • Email. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link.

  • Access, correction, and deletion. You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it by writing to legal@50millionamericans.org. We will confirm your identity before acting and respond within 30 days. We may keep records the law requires us to keep, such as records of gifts.

  • Cookies. You can accept or decline analytics and advertising cookies through the banner on our site, and you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Google offers a tool to opt out of Google Analytics at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

  • State privacy laws. Some states give residents additional privacy rights. We honor the requests described above no matter which state you live in.

  • Do Not Track. Our site does not currently respond to Do Not Track signals from web browsers.

7. Cookies, analytics, and advertising tools

Cookies are small files that a website stores in your browser. We and the providers below use cookies, pixels, and similar tools to run the site, understand how it is used, and measure our outreach.

  • Squarespace uses cookies that the site needs in order to work, along with cookies that measure site traffic. See squarespace.com/privacy.

  • Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, provided by Google, tell us how many people visit, which pages they view, and where they came from. See policies.google.com/privacy.

  • Microsoft Clarity, provided by Microsoft, shows us how visitors use the site through behavioral metrics, heatmaps, and session replay, which include clicks, scrolling, and mouse movement. We set Clarity to hide what you type into forms. Microsoft may use the data it collects as described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement, including for advertising. 8. How we protect your information

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, and the site uses an encrypted connection. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee that information will never be accessed without permission.

9. How long we keep information

We keep information for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, and longer when the law requires it, as with gift records. When we no longer need information, we delete it or remove the details that identify you.

10. Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, write to legal@50millionamericans.org and we will delete it.

11. Where information is stored

This site is intended for people in the United States. Your information is stored and processed in the United States.

12. Changes to this policy

When we update this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date.

By using the site, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

2. Educational content

This site provides nonpartisan educational information about the national debt and the constitutional amendment process. Figures come from public sources that we cite, and those sources update their numbers over time. We work to keep the information accurate and current, but it is for general information only and is not legal, tax, or financial advice. Nothing on this site endorses any candidate or political party.

3. The pledge and online giving are on a separate site

The pledge and online contributions are hosted on 50millionamericans.com, which is operated by a separate organization, the 501(c)(4) We The People Inc., under its own terms and privacy policy.

4. Contributions

This site does not accept contributions online. The Donate link takes you to 50millionamericans.com. Gifts made there go to the 501(c)(4) We The People Inc. and are not tax deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes.

To make a tax-deductible gift to the 501(c)(3) We The People Inc., write to us at legal@50millionamericans.org. Gifts to the 501(c)(3) are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. Our federal tax identification number is 38-4378860. We will send a receipt for each gift.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to use automated tools to collect content from the site, interfere with its operation or security, or use it in a way that breaks the law.

6. Our content

The text, graphics, logos, and other content on this site belong to 50MA or the people who licensed them to us. You are welcome to share links to the site and to quote it for noncommercial, educational purposes, as long as you credit 50 Million Americans, do not change the meaning, and do not suggest that we endorse you or your cause.

7. Other sites

The site links to other websites, including 50millionamericans.com and the public sources we cite. We are not responsible for the content or practices of other websites.

8. Disclaimers

The site is provided as it is and as it is available. We do not guarantee that the site will be error-free or always available.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, 50MA and its directors, officers, volunteers, and service providers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim related to the site is limited to $100.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oklahoma, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Kingfisher County, Oklahoma.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we will post the new version here with a new effective date. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the updated terms.
